3. Sint Maarten to Grenada

This passage will leave beautiful Sint Maarten and head 300 nautical miles south across the clear blue waters of the Caribbean.

The trades will be in full force this time of year and we will try to wait for them to swing slightly north of east before we leave Sint Maarten. Depending on the wind angle and strength we will aim for one of the French islands, either Guadeloupe or Martinique, to rest and wait for weather for a night or two and then continue heading south. These islands offer many beautiful anchorages to the cruising sailor as well as a vibrant culture ashore.
This trip will offer an opportunity to experience the strength of the Caribbean Trades and how to effectively cover ground down the island chain. There will be shipping/coastal traffic to deal with, and routing will be important as many of the islands we will be passing have significant localized effects on weather. Oh and don’t forget we should have a day or two for adventures ashore/at anchor and time to soak in a Caribbean sunset.
